About
About me and my style
In 1989, while I was a senior in College, my parents recognized my budding talent as a photographer and helped me pay for my first 35mm manual focus SLR camera, a Minolta X-300. I immediately put it to good use by enrolling in a photography course, where I started building a solid foundation of fundamentals and artistic talent. I won my first photo contests sometime around 1993 with photos taken at the Grand Canyon and a water ski show.
Over the years I have discovered that I really enjoy making photographs of people, especially children and families. I am sure it helps that I am a father to two very active children, which has given me unlimited opportunities to practice my trade. It also helps that I started learning to use Adobe Photoshop around 2000, which has allowed me to nurture my more artistic and creative side. For me, shooting a photograph is only half of the process, because a lot of work is done on every photograph in Photoshop, both adjusting the color and composition, and adding my own creative touches.
I have never been a big fan of portraits taken in indoor studios with all their lights and unnatural backgrounds. That is why I consider myself a natural light photographer and I prefer to shoot on location (preferably outdoors) with minimal posing and no backgrounds. If your preference is to have very traditional and mostly posed images from a session, I may not be the photographer for you. There is nothing I enjoy more than watching a family having fun together in comfortable surroundings, and it is my privilege to capture those moments so I can help you tell your story.
Life happens and the world is my studio.
